Last night, my church had an outdoor showing of Overcomer by the Kendrick Brothers. If you have not watched this, you really need to make the time to do so. It's an excellent movie...just like all their other movies.
One of the main points of the movie is, 'Who or what do you allow to define who you are?' Does how well you do your job defines who you are? Do your relationships, rather good or bad, cause you to look good or bad at yourself? What about how good you look...are you looking for perfection in your looks and only then do you find yourself worthy to be loved? What in this world makes you see yourself as good enough or not?
You see, God knows how much you're worth. He designed you and created you. And, He says you are beautifully and wonderfully made. And, God never changes. He doesn't look at when you do wrong and then say that you are not loved. He loves every crooked tooth and side smile and freckle and mole. He even loves you when you treat others bad. He loves you when others treat YOU bad. No matter what happens, He is there. He is constant. He does not change his mind about you. He is pleased with His creation and wants a close relationship with you. He sent His Son, Jesus, to die for you...that's how much you are worth!
He wants to help you. Nobody else can help you like He can because He knows all the ins and outs of you...all that has hurt you and why it hurt you, all the things you wished you could change about yourself, and all the things that you've done wrong, and and yet He still sees the best in you, He still says He forgives you and He can help you make your life right.
In the movie, the girl received Jesus as her Savior and was told to read Ephesians 1 and 2. God helped her to see how He sees her. Reading the Bible helped her understand who she truly was and Who God was and how much He loved her. She then went to her coach and told him who she was in Christ...you can watch this iconic scene here.
Now, God does not say life will be easy just because you've invited Him to be your Lord and Savior. BUT, he does say He will be with you. He will be your Comfort, your Strength, your Guide, your Shepherd, your Father, your Lord, your Savior...in more ways than one. And, allowing Him to be all of these, you will get through everything life brings your way and you'll be able to help others, as well. You'll find meaning and purpose. Your life will make a difference. You will see that despite the hardships, life truly is beautiful and YOU are, too. Just you being a creation of the Most High God makes you a beauty to behold. So, hold your head high. Praise your Maker. Fight those demons coming after you. And, come out the other side knowing that you are His. He is yours. And, nothing can separate you from the love of God.
Below is a writing that says some of the above, but also so much more of who we are in Christ. The author is unknown to me. After reading it, you can click the button below and have your own copy of it.
Who I Am
I'm a part of the fellowship of the unashamed. I have Holy Spirit power. The dye has been cast. I have stepped over the line. The decision has been made. I'm a disciple of His. I won't look back, let up, slow down, or back away.
My past is redeemed, my present makes sense, my future is secure. I'm finished and done with low living, sight-walking, small planning, smooth knees, colorless dreams, tame visions, mundane talking, cheap giving, and dwarfed goals. I no longer need pre-eminence, prosperity, position, promotions, plaudits, or popularity. I don't have to be right, first, tops, recognized, praised, regarded, or rewarded.
I now live by faith, lean on His Presence, walk by patience, lift by prayer, and labor by power. My face is set, my gait is fast, my goal is the Kingdom of Heaven, my road is narrow, my way if rough, my companions few, my guide reliable, my mission clear. I cannot be bought, compromised, detoured, or delayed. I will not flinch in the face of sacrifice, hesitate in the presence of the adversary, negotiate at the table of the enemy, ponder at the pool of popularity, or meander in the maze of mediocrity.
I won't give up, shut up, let up, until I have stayed up, stored up, prayed up, preached up for the cause of Christ. I AM A DISCIPLE OF JESUS. I must go til He comes, give til I drop, preach til all I know, and work til He stops me. And, when He comes to establish His kingdom, He will have no problem recognizing me....
My banner will be clear.
